Photos Taken on Recent Travel to Vietnam & Singapore

A few weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic became known to the world, I travelled across the globe to Vietnam and Singapore. I could not have asked for a more extraordinary experience discovering the cultures and traditions of Southeast Asia. From indulging in the street food of Hoi An to riding on the back of motorbikes in Hanoi, I gained a deep appreciation for the diversity of ways people live. Hiking up terraced rice paddies in Sapa, it was incredible to see the innovative methods native residents used to construct their own homes. This experience was then distinctly juxtaposed by flying off to lavish Singapore the following day. I feel wonderfully fortunate to have taken such an eye-opening trip right before I was banned from travelling altogether when the pandemic hit.

Photography is a hobby of mine very much rooted in my architectural education. In my first year of architecture school, we were required to take an analog photography class, where we developed our own film using chemicals in the school darkroom. The skills learnt in this course have stayed with me for life, and I always apply them to any visualization exercise. While I often bring my DSLR camera with me on travel, I saw it fitting to select photos of the trip I returned from a few days before the pandemic made travel a concept of the past.
